Welcome to the homepage of Georgia Southern University's official radio station, 91.9 The Buzz! We are one of many student-run organizations available to promote and stimulate the creative doings and minds of our peers. Our motive is to spread the voice of the future artists and talent across campus and nearby areas. We play a variety of genres, ranging from Pop to K-Pop; however, our talent only consists of the Georgia Southern's very own students, faculty and staff. We are putting your student fees to work!
STATION HISTORY
WVGS FM 91.9 has been known as “The Progressive Alternative” since it opened in 1974. The definition of progressive music changes with time, but there is always music too new, experimental, or obscure to get played on commercial radio.
We try our best to educate listeners. We emphasize in news, sports, public attention, and music. These things need independent college radio to survive. Commercial radio stations won’t play it because “there is no money in it.” WVGS FM 91.9 does not have that problem. We are a non-profit, non-commercial, so we can play all the good stuff that you won’t hear anywhere else.
WHO LISTENS?
WVGS FM 91.9 “The Buzz,” represents the many musical styles and tastes found on campus and the 20,000 students within the community. These styles and tastes range from punk, hard rock, techno, dance, hip-hop, jazz, reggae, R&B, and country. WVGS serves the cities of Statesboro, Portal, Reidsville, Claxton, Brooklet, and Metter. WVGS is operated 24/7.
